First Day of Pre-K

Elliot's First Day of Preschool Elliot's First Day of Preschool Elliot's First Day of Preschool Elliot's First Day of Preschool

Little E is growing up and started preschool last week. He is adjusting pretty well so far, and he looks forward to going to school. I can't believe that this time next year I will have to start applying for kindergarten. I need to find a remote and pause this moment in time for a little bit. Time is flying by way too fast.

Family Update

Let me jump back into blogging and give you a quick glimpse into our lives at the moment...

E just turned 3 years old! Wasn't it just yesterday that we celebrated his first birthday? Each birthday gets more fun, and E absolutely enjoyed all the perks that come with birthdays -- family, cake, balloons, and presents!

We're hitting the troublesome threes, and it can be a bit challenging. The highs are very high, and the lows really suck. Since E is now able to speak in full conversations with us, he is also very opinionated. He has his likes and dislikes, which change throughout the day given his mood. We're down to no naps, and it can be difficult dealing with a very tired and grumpy three year old at the end of the day. Most tantrums are usually the result of hunger or sleepiness.

Day in the Life...
a day in the life of a toddler

E is starting preschool in the fall! Woah... slow down, kid! He is so excited for preschool and mentions it a few times a week (or multiple times a day). It's a two hour program four days a week, and we're actually looking forward to having E in school. He is most definitely ready, and he will only grow and benefit from being in a school environment with other kids.

Allergies! Unfortunately the seasonal allergies have hit hard in this household for E and H. This year was the first year that E is being affected, and it is no fun for anyone in this family. Luckily I think he is improving, and it should pass soon. On a brighter note, we think that E is outgrowing a few of his food allergies. Yay! We just had a food challenge last week at the doctor's office, and he successfully ate a muffin baked with cow's milk. If this proves successful, the allergist would like to test egg next. *fingers crossed*

O is 6.5 months old, and he is growing so much everyday. We're getting hit with a wonder week and growth spurt, but it hasn't been too bad. O is rolling and sitting with assistance. I lazily started introducing solids, and O isn't a huge fan of eating baby food. He would much rather stare at our plate of food and grab my glass of water at every given opportunity. He still nurses throughout the day. The stretches between feedings is getting longer, and it only takes him about 5 minutes to eat. We're still waking up a few times in the middle of the night, which I don't mind (crazy, right?). His personality is so different from E, and it's a lot of fun seeing him grow and transform into a little kid.

Surrounded by Toys

We were hit with a lot of health issues these last couple of months, and we're on the road to recovery. O has MSPI (milk and soy protein intolerance) and other food allergies/sensitives that I have had to address in my diet. Eczema is something that we can't exactly hide from, and O has it pretty bad. We were battling a crazy infection on both ears that would not go away. Luckily a visit to the dermatologist helped us understand the issue and the proper way to get rid of the infection. The itchiness affects him the most before taking a nap or going down for the night. It's hard to watch him suffer, but he is a trooper who rarely shows that he is in pain. We also had a scare with a heart murmur, which may have indicated the presence of the VSD (ventricular septal defect) we saw in ultrasounds when I was pregnant. By the time of our appointment, the murmur went away, and his heart was nice and healthy. The murmur may have been a result of the small hole actually closing up.

The two kids get along together so well, and I love seeing their relationship with one another grow and develop. E is so caring and loving towards his baby brother. He is anxiously awaiting the day when O is old enough to be his play buddy. O looks up to his big brother and loves to watch E play. I can already tell that they will be best friends growing up.

The transition from a family of three to four has been challenging at times but overall pretty smooth. We divide and conquer to get through the long days. I think we expected it to be 10x harder, and in actuality it isn't too bad. It took a while to find the right balance, and we're constantly learning how to improve and work together.

thank goodness for tripods that allow us to take family photos

So this is where we are currently at in our lives. I'll slowly get myself back into the blogging groove. Enjoy the small update for now. :)

Happy Holidays... a Bit Late...

Life gets hectic with a toddler and an infant. Lack of blogging is making me feel all sorts of bleh. I need to get back on track. Most times I am only able to blog because E spends the day at my FIL's. Otherwise, I am too busy focusing on taking care of the kids, trying to keep up with the house, and cooking meals.

The holidays came and went. It was a busy one for us, but we did manage to take a family photo and send out cards before Christmas. Happy Belated Holidays!

P.S. This is our first and only family picture with the four of us. It's even more difficult to take pictures with two kids. Who would have thought? Thank you self timer and tripod for making this photo possible.
